State Legislature should Be held accountable

The issue of printing of public notices/legals by some government entities has again been raised in the state legislature. The Reader, Rutherford County’s only privately owned weekly paper, agrees with the state legislature that government needs to be accountable to its citizens and make public notice available to the largest number of its citizens via “publications of general circulation.”

Small business owners stand up

Part 1

A group of small business owners have joined forces to
fight what they call a culture of over-regulation and an
absence of common sense in local government.
Members of the recently formed Small Business Alliance
of Rutherford County say the fees, ordinances, taxes and regulations placed on small businesses are getting out of control, and the City of Murfreesboro as an entity seems concerned with collecting money and regulating every step of the process more so than truly helping business prosper, more concerned with aesthetics and conformation than keeping safe and sanitary conditions. “It should be ‘what can I help you do to open your business,’” says Jake Robinson, director of the Small Business Alliance of Rutherford County. “That’s where they get their revenue. They should be trying to help them.” However, a common theme among Murfreesboro business seems to be “The City is getting in the way of me doing business.”

NEWSPAPER AND WEBSITE CONSULTING

It is our opinion that small, independently owned and operated newspapers will be the future. Even though the internet has taken a bite out of larger, daily newspapers’ advertising and subscriber numbers, people still want a community newspaper. We have taken a small shopper, changed direction, and added a website making it a more viable product.

As your consultants, we start by critiquing your publication,
taking a strong look at all publications in your market and put an affordable program together tailored to your short and long term goals. After our initial visit, we will make recommendations concerning production, distribution, advertising, and more.  If you are the only publication in your market, this program also will make it more difficult for any start-up or product planning to expand into your market. Contact us today and lets determine if we can be of help.
